For the International Autism Awareness Day, we are presenting the “Not Invisible and Unbreakable. Stories about the lives and challenges of Ukrainian autistic children during the war” project. With the information support of INVAK.INFO, we are telling the stories of 12 families who have learned to live on after the tragic day of February 24, 2022. The families share their experiences and feelings, secrets of overcoming difficulties in Ukraine and abroad, and each family is united with an irrefutable belief in the soonest and most long-awaited Victory.
The project is presented in two parts:
- Amazing stories about families of autistic children published on the INVAK.INFO and the “Autism & Inclusion” telegram channel and Facebook.
- The annual desk calendar “Not Invisible and Unbreakable” with the secrets of what supports the family of an autistic child in the times of war and allows them to live in new conditions. As a reminder, some families have already participated in the project of the “Child with Future” NGO “Ordinary Happiness – Unusual Recipes” and became the heroes of the 2022 New Year’s calendar. The calendars for 2025-2026 are available in Ukrainian and English.
The project “Not Invisible and Unbreakable. Stories about the lives and challenges of Ukrainian autistic children during the war” aims to support and unite parents of autistic children. It demonstrates the resilience and determination of ordinary people in sometimes inhuman circumstances. It helps children with ASD to feel needed, accepted and understood. It also makes Ukrainian society and the world proud of the resilience of those who need support the most, but who have become a support for others in wartime.
We are grateful to the INVAK.INFO news agency for publishing the project’s stories on their website.
